2022 Review Series | Every Summer After by Carley Fortune

Welcome to the next installment of my 2022 review series. Aka, every book I read but didn’t talk about on here until now. Today’s novel is Every Summer After by Carley Fortune, my top read last year. If any book gives off the summer vibe, it’s this one. It reminded me of my favorite book series growing up regarding the magical feeling it gave me about summer.

I was late to the game when I read this, but I thought to myself, “Why didn’t I read this sooner?” once I’d finished it. That’s probably the same reaction I’ll have to her newest novel, Meet Me at the Lake, once I get around to reading it.

Goodreads Review | Five stars

I originally had no interest in reading this novel but put it on hold a few weeks ago. I thought it’d be a few months before I got my copy and didn’t think much else until it popped up, ready to be delivered to my Kindle.

I consumed this story in less than two days. It’s a past and present story, showing us what it was like when the two main characters met at thirteen and how they overcame the biggest mountain they’d endured at thirty. They spent ten years not talking but are still so infatuated with one another.

The story was so sweet, had a few plot twists, and made me so giddy at the end.

It reminded me a lot of The Summer I Turned Pretty and many other readers of Love and Other Words (I guess that will be one of my next reads). This was such a perfect book to end July, and now I want to spend my summers living in a cottage in Barry’s Bay, Ontario.

I could go on and on about my love for this book, but I’ll end here☀️

Final Thoughts

There are very few books that I enjoy reading at 5:00 a.m., but this was one of them. I’d woken up for no apparent reason and recall reading this story for a few hours before I started work. All I know is that once I’d finished it, I couldn’t stop thinking about the dreamy cottage on the lake and spending my summers with little to no responsibility. You’ll find me striving towards that for the rest of my life haha.

If you’re looking for one last read before summer officially ends ina few days and you haven’t read this story, make sure to grab it!
